1st of May

Hello everyone! It started with holidays, so my plan for the holidays was to go travel with my EVS friend Carolina from Portugal. So on Friday I went to Kamnik to meet Carolina so we could plan what we would do during the holidays. When I got there we went for a walk through Kamnik and then she had to record her voice for a EVS video she made for a competition. That was quite exciting to see how recording sound in a studio looks like and it took maybe around an hour to get the perfect one. After recording we went out to meet some other EVS friends and we had a lot of fun.I slept over in Kamnik because the next day we were going to go on a trip. Woke up the next day and Carolina was working on the video and the day before we talked about hair colouring and I’ve wanted to do something with it my hair so insted of going on a day trip we decided to colour my hair. I didn’t know what colour to colour it but I knew kinda. It was either between black, blonde or orange. Eventually I chose black and it turned out amazing. I was super nervous to colour it and it took around 2h the entire prosses and I’m really happy with it and I couldn’t have done it without Carolina so thank you! 2 hours later we decided to go to Ljubljana to Metelkova for a  concert and it was very fun evening there. I stayed home the next day and worked on the video for Kokos which I find quite difficult, there is so much great content but I can’t use everything because it will be around 30 min long and that is way to long, I probably have to shorten it down to atleast 15 min.

Next day I went back to Kamnik around 17 to celebrate the first of May. We went to a bonfire there. I was told it was going to be a huge bonfire but it wasn’t that huge, quite small and I was a little bit dissapointed by it. The celebration was otherwise really fun. They had a band and they were playing Slovenian songs and I went dancing there and had a really good time. It felt like the whole town was there and having fun celebrating so the energy there was great! We stayed there until everyone went home. The next day we just took it easy and relaxed and I went home later during the day.  Otherwise nothing special happend this week. I spent most of the time with my lovely flatmates.
See you soonand have a good time!

Finnish Departure

Hello everyone! I woke up around 6am to get ready to go to Bohinj with Oliver and Jerker. We wanted to go early because it takes around 2h with bus to Bohinj and we wanted to visit Bled aswell. We planned on taking the bus at 8am and I got there around 15min early but Oliver and Jerker came a little late so we missed the bus with 2min but that was okay, we went to Metelkova to check it out during the day and they really liked it alot. We waited until the next bus that arrived at 9am so we didn’t have to wait so long for it. We arrived around 11 at Bohinj and it was so hot there, It was like walking through Sahara, we were dying. We started to walk around the lake but when we were almost half way around we saw a bunch of workers working with some forrest machines and they had a sign that the road was closed for walking so we had to walk back. Either way it was fine because we got to enjoy the most of what Bohinj offered. When we got back at the bus stop we decided not to go to Bled because we were alreay tierd and exhausted from the walk and the heat so we went to go get something small to eat and then we left for home.
When we got back to Ljubljana we went for something to eat. When we walk through the city centre there was some girls who invited us for a pub crawl through Ljubljana and it sounded quite fun so we thought about it and Jerker was a little excited even though he dosen’t drink and he haven’t really enjoyed the night life here so we gave it a shot.
The evening came and I was on my way to meet Oliver and Jerker and on the way I saw on the news that Avicii had died so that kinda bummed me out. I was a huge fan of his music I also saw him live in Helsinki in 2015 right before he announced that he was going to quit playing shows and just focus on making music. Anyway we arrived at the meeting point and we paid for the pub crawl and we the whole night was alot of fun. We met alot of new people because everyone was international and Jerker had a good time so it was worth it.

The next day was the day of the departure for Oliver and Jerker. We met up in the city centre for one last lunch at my favourite resturant and I just had a coffee because I wasn’t feeling my best hehe. But after the lunch we went for a walk through the centre and took photos with Olivers analog camera. I really need to get myself one of those. You only have a limited photos with those and you really need to choose at which moment to take a photo, with digital you can take unlimited photos until you get the right one and with the analog one you really have to think. This would really improve my camera eye and I would become a better photagrapher so the next thing im going to buy is a analog camera.
After the walk we went to the busstation where Oliver and Jerker were going to take their shuttle to the airport. It was really sad seeing them leave because i had so much fun with them when they were here and when they left I started to really miss home and my friends. The following week I started working with my movie for Kokos and that was really though and emotional. In Črnuče I was mostly in the garden and that was so nice and relaxing and I really needed to relax and  I really needed to rest. The week with my friends here has so far been the most exhausting and fun adventure here.  My calf started hurting everytime I walked, I don’t think I’ve walked this much or beeing this active for a long time and that caused my calf to hurt. Also I went to see Avengers Infinity war with my flatmate Marta and it was incredible. My flatmates have wanted me to include them in my blog. They have been basically begging me to include them so soon in the future I will make a seperate post about them. That will be fun hehehe.
See you soon and have a good time.

FInnish people in Slovenia

Hello everyone! I’m sorry I haven’t updated it in a few weeks, I bought a diary and I started to write in that one so I kinda forgot to write her.
I met up with Emil, Peter, Marko and Dora from Portugal for ice cream.
Later we went to a café for a coffe and we talked a little about the exchange
I am going to be in and we had a really good time. After the coffee I took Emil to a see a exhibition. The exhibition was north of where we had coffee so it was very easy to find the place, and it was in Tivoli Grad and it was also the opening day so it was perfect. It was David Lynch who had the exhibition there an he is one of my favourite directors so I was really excited to see his work. It was a bunch of paintings he made with the coal and he painted them by hand and it was really cool. You could really see some stuff from the new season of Twin Peaks which I loved! At the end of the exhibition he had a few short films he made from the 60s until 2015 I think. They were really freaky and wierd just as I like it. There was also a chalkwall that you could write with different kinds of crayons and me and Emil kept writing a bunch of Twin Peaks quotes. I had a really good time there with Emil. After the exhibition went to meet with Peter, Marko and Dora for pizza, and the place we went to is called Trta and it’s the best pizza place in town. I went to Focolus where people say it’s the best but no it’s trash! Trta is the shit! It’s the best pizza ever!! After the delicious pizza we went to a bar and drank some beer and had a really good time and we met a kangaroo and took some pictures with it.

Saturday was the day Oliver and Jerker came to visit me! I was waiting all day for them and they arrived around 7 here. But before that I went out with a guy from my house where I live and we went to Tivoli park and chilled really hard. After that I went to meet with Oliver, Peter and Emil and we went to the brewery for some burgers and beers! It was so nice seeing them after 4 months. After that we went with Jerker and Olivers stuff to Črnuče and then we went to Metelkova because it’s Emils favourite place in Ljubljana and we had a lot of fun there and we also met up with Peter and Tessa who we met 4 years ago on a exchange here in Ljubljana. We couldn’t stay there so long because next morning we were going to go to Croatia for a little roadtrip.

I over slept and I woke up where we were supposed to meet because Oliver called me and asked where I was so it ended with them had to come and pick me up. We drove first to Postojna and then down towards Rijeka in Croatia and we stopped by a gas station and had some coffee. When we got to the border we first stopped at the Slovenian side to give the passports and then we drove to the Croatian side and Jerker forgot to stop and the guy at the booth checking passports got really mad at Jerker and kept saying “I will punish you” , “You need to think when you drive” and “Stupid European” and it was really funny and we kept on waiting the whole trip for what he meant by “I will punish you”. We drove down to Rijeka because I found out that there was an Abandoned missile launce station there and I can’t tell how we got there here because I think people are not alowed to go inside there because it was quite dangerous but the place was so cool and totally worth it! After that we drove down to Zadar which took around 3h to drive and we took the coast road and that was the best decision we did during the trip because google maps said to go another way but we wanted to see the coast and it was absolutly incredible! When we got to Zadar it was around 21 and we had a little problem finding a parkling place because we had rented an Airbnb apartment over the night. After we found a place we went up with our bags and then we went directly out to go see the old town and it was raining a little but it was fine. We went to go see the organ by the sea and it was soo cool. And we walked a little around the old town and then we walked back to the apartment.

Next day we went driving to Plitvice which is a national park full with waterfalls and I have never seen anything like this before, it was waterfalls everywhere you looked It was the most incredible place I’ve ever seen. We spent around 6h there and it was quite wierd because we never showed our ticket so basically you could just go in there and it was so wierd. After the park we drove to Karlovac and when we started driving there it started raining really hard and hailing so we could basically se nothing! It was crazy how much it rained and when we arrived we searched for a hostel there and we found a perfect one in the center and it was very cheap. It was thundering so you could see the lightning very good from our room where we slept. I would really like to work at a hostel some time in the future. We went out to eat some food and I had some calamari and I haven’t had it since I was on exchange in Slovenia 4 years ago. Perfect ending to a perfect day.

We left quite early in the morning because Emil was leaving today so we drove to Ljubljana because we was also meeting with a volunteer from Portugal that was volunteering in Nykarleby last year. So we went for lunch at my favourite resturant here in Ljubljana called Druga Violina, They have really good and cheap food and everyday there is a different menu and they also have people with downsyndrome that’s helping the resturant which is really cool of them. After lunch we went to Vigo (Best ice cream shop in Slovenia) to buy ice cream and then we had to say good bye to Emil but I will see him soon in June when he is coming here for the exchange. I went home and after a few hours Oliver and Jerker came to my place to visit and see how I have it here. They met my flat mates and we had a good time. Next day we went to BTC the shopping “city” it’s almost as big as Nykarleby. We spend alot of time there to just chill and buy stuff. Oliver found some shoes and Jerker found himself a cap. Later we all went home to shower and stuff and then we met again at Trta to east some delicious pizza, and we were quite close to the castle so after we went up there and we saw a fox and alot of bats. Next day we woke up early because we were going to go to Smarna gora the hill where I went with Peter the week before. We had a lot of fun going up and we had a beer at the top but then Peter called and asked if I could come earlier to work because he needed me there to do some garden work which I love doing there, so we had to go earlier back. When I came there I started directly almost with garden work and I stopped when dinner was ready and after dinner went out for a stroll in the city and went for a beer and then home because next morning we were going to Bohinj.
See you and have a good time!

Hike

Hello everyone! On Sunday I went with Peter and his family to Slavnik and hike. The hike up took almost an hour and it was very warm, it was almost 20 degrees so for me it was summer. The view from it was incredible, you had view of the sea side and you could see mountains aswell. I wish we could have stayed there longer. After the hike we went to Lipica where they breed horses, white and beatiful horses. It was really cool aswell but not as cool as the hike.
In Kokos we started planning some movies that we wanted to film, one a bit more serious and another that is going to be a scary movie. On wednesday we started filming the serious one, I started interviewing the youngsters and asked them how they felt in Kokos and how they got there and suprisingly they were very open with everything and it got also got quite deep and emotional. The result was really incredibl. Also on Wednesday I went to hike with Peter again but this time to Šmarna Gora. It is much smaller than Slavnik but the terrain up was much harder and it was much harder to climb but the it was all worth it for the view. You had the view of Ljubljana and also of mountains. Im planning of bringing my friends there when they come here.
On Thursday my sending cordinator Emil from Finalnd came for avp meeting so I was really excited to see him. Me and Marko picked him up at the airport and we went to Črnuče for dinner. After that we went out for some drinks and it was really great having someone you can talk Swedish with. On Saturday two of my closest friends will come to vistit for a week and we have planned a trip to Croatia on Sunday with them and Emil so next week will be really busy.
Have fun and I will see you soon.

Food, gardening and Trieste

Hello everyone! Last weekend I went on a Easter lunch but it felt more like a dinner. I went with 2 of my flatmates to a Greek resturant and we met some friends there and had a big Easter meal and it was really lovely athmosphere and the food was delicious. It’s almost like im starting to enjoy Greek food over Slovenian. On Monday when it was a holiday I went to Trieste with my flatmates and some people from the same house I live in. It was really a perfect day for a trip to Italy, it felt like the first summer day of the year and it was so great everything. The weather was perfect, the people I was with was perfect and the city was perfect. I couldn’t have had any more perfect day than this.

I have alos found love for gardening. I was in the garden most of the time in Črnuče this week. I never thought it could be that relaxing removing moss and weed from the garden and cutting branches. Just having something to take care of felt so good. When I was the kid I hated being in the garden but now it’s all changed. When I come home to Finland I hope I can do something in our garden because I’ve really never thought about our garden until now.
Have a great week and I will see you soon.

Sick & Easter

Hello everyone! Last week I was sick almost the whole week, I had a fever for 3 days so I was only at work for one day. It was really horrible being sick here alone. This week started off good. At Kokos there is now a woman who is doing her practical work there for a few weeks,  it has been really fun at Kokos when you are not alone there and you have someone that’s in the same position. On Tuesday I came in a little earlier at work and I had a meeting with Peter and I got some tasks for the future and I feel a bit excited now for the future. On Wednesday me and my flatmates had a suprise party for one of my flatmates who turned 23 and we bought her a cake and gifts, it was a really fun experience. On Thursday we painted eggs the whole day at Črnuče, we painted 500 eggs and they had invited friends and family to join and also ex members of Črnuška gmajna so the whole day was alot of fun and alot of egg painting.
Have a great week and I wil see you!

Learning

Monday started with a meeting with Sonja my mentor and it felt good seeing her again after a bit more than a month. I haven’t seen her because I haven’t felt that good and I wanted some time for myself. I feel much better now and the meeting with Sonja really made me see things differently and also I felt more motivated to do things. After the meeting I went right to Kokos because I had my evaluation there. The evaluation went great and I was happy with the things I said because I’ve been afraid to say them and now it feels much better after getting it out of my system. The rest of the week has been nothing special except on Thursday I cooked with one of the youngsters and it turned out okay. I mean not everone liked it and we made alot of mistakes because neither of us are that good cooks and I am terrible at it and I dislike cooking alot. But I learned alot from it so for me it was a complete succes.
I’ve gotten this need that I feel to write stuff, like stories or just lines of whatever pops up. So that’s kinda interesting because I really don’t like writing at all but now all of the sudden that’s changed. Maybe I will become a writer who knows?

Kamnik

Hello everyone!

I chose to post this weeks post on Sunday insted of Friday because I went to Kamnik over the weekend and I wanted to show you some photos.

This week was very good, the youngsters came back home from Finland and everyone of them was so excited about it. They feel a little spaced out. Their minds are still at the exchange it seems, It have happend to me aswell when I’ve been on a exchange and sometimes it’s a bit hard to snap back to reality.
I need to start writing down my thought now when im posting weekly, I feel it would provide much better content for the blog. Otherwise it would be quite booring for the people that read my blog if I just write what I’ve done.
This weekend I went to Kamnik to visit a friend I met on the Mid-term evaluation. I have never been to Kamnik before and it is such a nice and cozy town. We went hiking to Stari grad and the view was insane, I could almost see home from there!
I will see you on Friday.

January and until now.

Hello everyone!

I don’t have any pictures taken since I came back to Slovenia so I will put some photos from Finland.

It felt strange being back here in Slovenia. It felt like coming home but not really your home, to a very friendly place but still so unknown. I was happy the first week here but then I started to feel lonely. It was like I wasn’t around like I was there but my mind was somewhere else. I think it was because I spent so much time with my friends back home that I felt lonely until one weekend I went out with my flatmates and it was so much fun I had such a great time and then after I didn’t feel so lonely.

Playing hockey

Most of the weekends I’ve spent with my flatmates and didn’t travel at all because now my money that I’ve saved since I worked last summer is running out so that’s one of the reasons I haven’t traveled anything but I hope I will go somewhere soon. This month I’ve been working alot with the youngsters in Črnuče with two videos.  One of the videos is for a Youth Exchange they are going to in my hometown Nykarleby and they are going to meet my friends and my sending organisation and I am really jealous of them going there and having their time of their life. The other video is a more serious one that is about what this group is. I had alot of fun recording the videos and editing it. I hope we will do another one for the exchange here in Slovenia in the middle of June. I also went Ice skating with Peter and his kids, well not Peter he just watched while I and his kids played hockey. The first hour we just ice skated and the next two hours we played hockey and it was really a great time and I could see that they enjoyed it as well.

A block of ice

In Kokos I baked a cake and I also had a workshop. It was a juggling workshop and I thought them how to make their own juggling balls and also how to juggle. It was very fun and alot of them improved with their juggling skills and two of them actually learned how to juggle a little. I am really looking forward to bake more cakes because I’m really starting to enjoy baking cakes, It suck though that I don’t have a oven in my house where I live. If I had a oven I would bake cakes all the time.

This is ice

I’ve had no motivation at all to take any photos since I got back from Finland. I don’t find this winter landscape here in Ljubljana that beautiful. People thinks that Im crazy for not thinking it’s beautiful but I grew up with snow and Im getting quite annoyed by it. It’s not appeling at all, It get’s in everywhere and it’s wet and cold, it’ just not for me at all. I love the sun and warmth, I was told that there haven’t been such good winters and that it’s been quite warm these recent years but apperently it decided to turn Slovenia into Finland and I don’t find that cool at all. I am so far away from Finland and still it’s just as cold now as it’s there and I don’t understand how.

Frozen sea

One weekend we went skiing with the group from Črnuče. The planning and everything went great except I missed my ride to Vogel. It caused alot of extra stress and problems that shouldn’t have been there from the first place. So far that day when I went to Vogel has been the worst so far, it felt like I let them down that day. Anyway the day after when we started skiing, I had borrowed a snowboard and snowboard boots. I put my boots on and was super ready to shred the slopes  but of course when I get out and start putting the boots on my board the plastic on the bottom of one of the boots breaks and comes loose so I couldn’t go ride then. Then I had to go rent a pair of boots but it was quite cheap for two days so it was alright. This was the second time I snowboarded in my life, the first time was just a few weeks before when I went with some friends from Škofja Loka one Thuesday morning. It was very hard to snowboard but I had a little experience when I skate during the summer. The was you move is kinda the same but the hard part was swithing your weight when your turning, if you have the weight on the wrong side you will faceplant or something worse. But this weekend was so much fun skiing, I will definitly try to go skiing more when I come back home to Finland because it was so fun. I got a new love for skiing that weekend.

I was free for one week here in February, I was spent mostly my time that week with my flatmates and I also had some friends coming here to Ljubljana that I spent my time with. I didn’t go outside of Ljubljana because Im trying to save some money because Im having alot of friends that’s coming here in both April and May so Im very excited for that. This last week when the group from Črnuče went to Finland I spent a few days at Production School. It’s a place for high schoolers that have jumped of school or have alot of problems at school so they are there a some days a week and some days in school or they go to that school. I had alot of fun there, I had my Finland and EVS presentation there and some activities and I also made some bulla! They didn’t turn out so good because we used a small plate to put in the oven so it didn’t fit in the middle so the bottom got burned a little but they still tasted very good! I felt wierd just to stay just two days it would have been very fun to spend some more time there but I will hang out with them more later in the future. They invited me to help them film a video in a theather so im a little excited for that.

From now on you will get a update every Friday. They won’t be that long the posts but they will be a little more detailed and more of my thoughts.
Enjoy.

November & December

Hello everyone!

On my last post I got alot of nice comments and I feel very grateful over that people take time to read and comment my blog that I thought nobody would take time to read. So thank you very much I feel more inspierd to write my blog knowing people are reading it.

November haven’t been that exciting for me as September and October. I felt like I needed some rest to just stay here at home and relax some weekends and just enjoy what’s around you. I don’t think I stayed home a single weekend for 2 months.  One weekend was very fun. It started with one friend on mine which is also a EVS volunteer came to visit me. We went to look at old books, vinyls and seocnd hand shops, then we went to this really amazing museum called The Musem of Illusions. After the museum closed I had to go home because the day after I was going on a trip with my cordinator Peter to go experience St. Martins day.

My friend Lea at the Museum of Illusions

Started with Peter picking me up in the morning and he had specifically told me to remember to bring my passport because we are taking a shortcut through Italy to Slovenia and we were already in Slovenia.  So that didn’t make any sense to me but of course I forgot my passport. So long story short I got smuggled into Italy. The whole day trip was amazing. We started the day by going to Brda, there we had a walking tour through the wine fields and we got to taste different kind of wine and also I got to try this really wierd fruit called Kaki. Kaki is a very sweet and tasty fruit, it kinda looks like a orange tomato. The guide told us about the wine fields and the places we visited during the guide but I didn’t understand much because it was all in Slovene, but it’s okay I got a very nice tour and experience anyway. We also visited Medana where there lived a famous Slovene poet and we also got to visit his home and that town was very beautiful.
After the tour we went to Štanjel which kinda reminded me of a medieval village. They had a big festtival there and they were playing music and dancing and of course drinking alot of wine. I got to experience the beautiful garden called Ferrari garden. The sun was going down so I didn’t have much time to take so good pictures. If you ever go to this region close to the Italian border than you must visit this place, it’s stunning!
We left Štanjel and went to Dutovlje where they also celebrated St. Martins day. We got there a little to late so we missed when the baptised the wine but insted I got to wittnes when some drunk Slovenes closed down the street and started playing music. They were dancing and singing their music. It was really amazing to watch them celebrate and also cars were honking at them but they didn’t care at all. After that Peter drove me back home.

Peter are really into these glass bottles

One sunday I went with the Kokos group to lake Bohinj. I’ve been there before 3 years ago when I was in Slovenia on a Youth Exchange. When we got there the first thing we did was to put all of our phones into the glovebox in the car, I found this quite wierd at the beginning because im not used to go anywhere without my phone. After a while I felt so much closer and with the nature and the people I was there with. Im used to take photos on my phone and post some on social media when im on some trips or to any new places but being without felt so much better. Insted I could just enjoy everything without having to check my phone every 5 minutes and it was so refreshing. Try it!
We walked around the entire lake and it took around 2h and it was one of my best walks of my life so far, it was like looking at a postcard everywhere you looked. It’s definitly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited.

With the group from Črnuče we went one weekend to the spa. I can’t describe how relaxing all the pools were and also the sauna. I’ve really missed my old buddy the sauna, I haven’t felt so relaxad so far during my stay here in Slovenia than this weekend. We also went to a tropical garden which really felt like a jungle. Im so glad that we went there. I felt that I got much closer to some of the youngsters but maybe a bit further from the mentors.

I want to talk a little about how I feel in Kokos and in Črnuče. In Kokos it feels more family friendly, the place where the yougsters hangout most is in the mentors office. They feel much more like a family there and is a much more relaxed athmosphere. In Črnuče it feels much more stressed out and tense. Yes sometimes it’s really relaxed but most of the time it’s tense but in a good way. In Črnuče the mentors feel more like teachers. I don’t really know what to say about all of this. I like both their way of handeling the youngsters. I don’t think that the way in Kokos would work here in Črnuče and the same way around at Kokos. I really have nothing to complain about in any of the houses. They handle their youngsters in the way they do and it works so what is it to complain about? I really love all of my co-workers even if im not the most talkative or social volunteer they’ve had but I hope they enjoy my company here.

December started of with me moving. I moved to Moste which is much closer to the centre. I live now with four other people that are in the same postion as me. Foreigners in a strange and unknown country, two of them are EVS volunteers like me and the other two are Erasmus+ students. I really enjoy living there, I get along very well with them as well so it’s perfect almost. The place is very small, the kitchen is way to small and we have to shara a 1m high refridgirator with 5 people. and we have also a small table where we have all of our food and it’s also our kitchen table and you can barely fit there. But it’s okay, I have good company there and that’s what matters.

I late November I bought a ticket back home for the Christmas holidays and I didn’t tell anyone except my friends in Slovenia, cordinator and my family. So when I got back home I suprised them and everything was really incredible. I was so glad seeing my family, I’ve really missed them alot but after a few days home I started to miss Slovenia and work. I just really wanted to get back there and to be in a rutine again. At home it felt quite boring because I didn’t know what I would do so I just waited for stuff to happen, that’s maybe because I didn’t tell anyone I was coming home. Most of the time I had alot of fun and I was home for about 2 weeks and when I was going back to Slovenia it felt really good but nervous coming back to the land of the unknown.

Take care, talk to you soon.
